In my former book, Theophilius, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach until the day that he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen.
After his sufferings, he showed himself to these men and gave them many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the Kingdom of God.
On one occasion, while he was eating with them he gave them thiscommand: "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father has promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptised with water, but in a few days you will be baptised with the Holy Spirit."
So when they met together, they asked him, "Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?"
He said to them, "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the Earth."
After this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.
They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. "Men of Galilee," they said, "why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven."

The Reality of HIV/AIDS

"This is J, she is 13 months old and has been in the health centre for the last 2 months. No improvement! So they gave her mother a letter for us and she came to us last week. She only weighs 4,4 kg.

She has really given up, and it breaks your heart when you see this little girl with those big eyes. She is very sick, we feed her via an NG tube and at the moment she is on an IV drip.

Her mother is HIV+ and I am pretty sure she is also infected with the virus. We will try to take her tomorrow to the hospital for testing.

 

Please pray for life for this little girl.

Have you ever wondered about the time between Jesus rising on Easter Sunday and His Ascension forty days later?

What a testimony to the reality of the resurection! What an answer to the sceptics and scoffers and unbelievers! Those forty days remain as the everlasting witness to the events of the Cross, the resurrection and our personal salvation.

But, it is when you see pictures of the suffering of little children as with J above, that you realise just how much we need to know that Jesus was not only resurrected but has risen to sit with God. And that in his rising, he released the third member of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, to pour out his power into our situations here on Earth.

We ask you to pray for this little child and the thousands like her. Pray in the confidence and power that Jesus hears and answers our prayers.

As we approach the time of Ascension and Pentecost, let us renew our faith in the reality of the risen Lord Jesus, and let us be open to receiving the power of the Holy Spirit to use and minister to those like little 'J'.
